There are different types of hair loss, The most common ones are listed as below:

Telogen Effluvium

I have seen many women and some men commonly suffering from this- they would report that hair is coming out in chunks after they shower- and it is getting thinner.

Androgenetic Alopecia

This is the most common type of hair loss i encounter. Men hair loss follows a particular pattern- hair gets thinner, more fragile and the spacing increases between hair follicles.

Alopecia Areata

I have seen this a few times- and treated it with complete resolution. People notice bald spots which can be small coin size from 50 p size to larger round areas generally.
